Way to Go!
Congratulations to our Destination Imagination team for winning 1st place in the Regional Tournament!

The March Math Contest will be on Wednesday, March 23rd for all 3-5 graders who are participating.
Our Independent Study has begun for grades 3-5. We have chosen topics, started researching, and began to take notes on our topics. The students love to dive into this project because it is their chance to research and learn more about a topic of their interest. All students have an Independent Study folder with several handouts that I have given over the last few weeks. I have also added these handouts to a folder on the bottom of this page. The final projects are due on April 11th. Students will present their topics to their classrooms where they will be graded. The Focus Festival is on April 28th at Brooke Point High School from 6:30-8:00 pm. I hope that all students (and parents) can attend and display their wonderful projects. If you have any questions during this process, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. I look forward to seeing all of these amazing projects and their presentations!
Word Masters Challenge #3
The third and final Word Masters Challenge will be on April 13th. All new word lists will go home the first of March, so be sure to start working on those words as soon as possible! Remember to review previous words from the other challenges, as some of them will show up on this last contest. A new power point and quizlet will be posted shortly. Please come back to this page to find those to help in your studying. Good Luck!
Word Masters Challenge #2
The second Word Masters Challenge will be on February 10th! The new words have been handed out in class, and they are also located in the files below. The new Quizlets and Power Points are up for the February challenge. Remember, some words from the first challenge will be on the second challenge, so go back and review the first set of words! Good Luck!
Word Masters Challenge Date!
The first Word Masters Challenge for this year is scheduled for Monday, November 30th. Word lists will come home with students by Friday, October 30, but can also be found in the class files folder below. Between the time of receiving the lists and the contest, students need to become very familiar with the words and their multiple meanings, as well as their parts of speech. Have students find relationships among the words, as well as create their own associations with the words in order to think ahead about what may be on the contest.
Please know that words from the first list will reappear on the second challenge. So, in the future, it will be beneficial for students to review the words from previous lists in addition to studying the current word list. If you have any questions, let me know! Thanks!

Word Masters is a national analogies contest that is offered three times a year for students in grades 3-5. Students in each grade level with the highest score overall on all three contests, will be recognized at the end of the school year. Word lists will be given to classroom teachers and will be located in the file section of my webpage. More information to follow as we get closer to the first challenge!
Beginning in October, students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in a monthly problem solving competition. These contests will start in October and go through April. Be ready to use some of my favorite strategies: finding a pattern, drawing a picture, making a table or chart, and working backward!
It's time to put on those thinking caps and begin to creatively problem solve! Destination Imagination is a great program open to all students who would like the opportunity to create, use their dramatic skills, and work together as a team. Please go to the Destination Imagination website for more information on starting a team! We had a few teams from Park Ridge last year who had a fabulous experience! I would love to see the continued excitement from PRES students and parents as they consider joining in on this great opportunity! If you have questions, please contact me!
